Information about CHXO / Chris Snyder

I'm working full-time for the Fund for the City of New York, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for New Yorkers (and others).

I'm working with them to create next-generation websites and services that help other non-profits acheive their missions, and it rocks.

CHXO has teamed up with other members of New York PHP to create an efficient, object-oriented mailing list manager and web forum using PHP and MySQL. It will eventually replace Mailman as the engine behind NYPHP's successful mailing lists.

Project Clew is well underway, and nearly ready for light (non-enterprise) production use. We expect to have a release ready for general use by the end of 2004.

Quick Summary

I have seven years of experience creating and managing reasonably secure mail/www/ftp/ssh/dns servers with Linux and FreeBSD, as well as creating web-based applications on top of them. Practically everything I have written is free software, released under the GNU GPL; some of it has even been helpful to people in real world situations.

My current interest is content management-- technology that allows creative types to be as sloppy and disorganized as they want, without becoming a burden to the rest of the world. See also Fotola.com and Project Clew.
